Ecotherapy Services
For centuries, our ancestors and people have turned to the Earth and land as a healing entity. The force of nature has been powerful enough to transform physical and mental health issues. It’s a medicine that many of us benefit from.
Ecotherapy is an experiential process in which an individual becomes immersed in a natural environment as a way to alleviate and heal the symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress. Ecotherapy goes beyond a walk in the woods, it is an opportunity to realign with land, spirit, body and nature with the guidance of a licensed therapist.
Some key elements to alleviating symptoms of depression are daily sunlight and fresh air. Studies have shown that exposure to nature and natural environments can increase the production of Serotonin, which is a key hormone in regulating our mood and bodies. Although we love our technology, it’s helpful to reduce the time we spend on screens and get outdoors.
For those who may be recovering from trauma and PTSD, Ecotherapy has been proven as a highly effective tool. Nature can increase feelings of safety and a sense of physical, emotional, and mental control.
At Collaborative InSights, Ecotherapy services are led by Shikha Patel, MSW, LCSW, Founder and Ecotherapist.

In-person Ecotherapy sessions take place in the Charlotte, NC area. Walk and talk sessions take place on local greenways (the quieter ones) and some wooded trails. Safety matters, we choose trails that are accessible by local raods.
What if I don’t want to do walk and talk sessions?
Options to have seated sessions are also available and can be done in more private locations. Some folx even choose to lay on a blanket in the grass and walk barefoot! An assessment will take place to support your needs.
Are there any risks involved in Ecotherapy?
Ecotherapy will be conducted in a public area or park. Therefore, you will be taking the risk of possibly running into someone you know. You can discuss confidentiality issues ahead of time.
Compared to being indoors or in virtual sessions, being outdoors does imply some risk. Injury, illness, insect bites, or sunburn are possible. You can lower your risks by wearing the appropriate attire and shoes, using insect repellent, and sunscreen.
